<prefectures, what are they known for, why should people consider this region?
Beyond the reasons above, Tohoku is great because it is way less touristy than other regions, in part because of the lack of hub airports in the region. While Kyushu has Fukuoka, Kansai has Osaka and Kanto has Tokyo, Tohoku is only easily accessed by Shinkansen.
Beyond that, the best part of Tohoku is that it has great autumn leaves and cherry blossom sights that are slightly off-season. While Tokyo and Osaka/Kyoto peak for autumn leaves viewing in end-November to early-December, Tohoku peaks earlier in mid-October to mid-November (cheaper flights!). Same for cherry blossoms; while Tokyo and Osaka/Kyoto peak during the first two weeks of April, Tohoku peaks in mid- to late-April.
I know some of you may wonder how off-setting your trip by 2 weeks would make a difference, but trust me it does. - you can save about 25%! I did a little experiment for flights on Singapore Airlines below, on 17 January 2026:
Cherry Blossoms
For a return flight to all Tokyo airports on 1 Apr (Wed) - 8 Apr (Wed), the cheapest is $1,280 (2355 - 0800 SIN-NRT, 1900 - 0055 NRT-SIN)
For the same duration two weeks later on 15 Apr (Wed) - 22 Apr (Wed), the cheapest flights cost $952 (1355 - 2155 SIN-HND, 1705 - 2305 HND-SIN), a whopping $330 or 25% cheaper!
Autumn Leaves
For a return flight to all Tokyo airports on 25 Nov (Wed) - 2 Dec (Wed), the cheapest is $952 (2355 - 0730 SIN-NRT, 0850 - 1520 HND-SIN)
For a return flight four weeks earlier on 28 Oct (Wed) - 4 Nov (Wed), the cheapest is $689 (1405 - 2140 SIN-HND, 1000 - 1630 NRT-SIN), about $260 cheaper (28%). Not to mention better timings and you get to avoid the crazy December school holidays.

赤武 Akabu
岩手 IwateOne of my favourite sake because of how accessible (cheap, easy to drink) it is, and yet still a notch above Dassai.
Can be found in most sake places, but there will be interesting ones at the brewery.
